The Women's Department of the Supreme Council for Popular Resistance organized an expanded symposium for prominent Yemeni women leaders to discuss appropriate mechanisms for activating the role of Yemeni women in resistance work. The symposium also discussed their role in raising national awareness, consolidating a sense of belonging to the homeland and belief in its constants, and the ongoing struggle to return Yemen to the path of peace.

The symposium, which brought together female leaders, academics, social researchers, and human rights activists from within and outside Yemen, featured working papers that addressed the remarkable contributions of Yemeni women living abroad in supporting the popular resistance movement through various means, including financial support and qualitative development for generations abroad.

In her paper, Dr. Yusra Abdullah focused on the means to be adopted to engage with a generation growing up outside Yemen and the importance of building a comprehensive national narrative that preserves Yemeni memory for future generations.  Meanwhile, Houria Al-Saadi called for the establishment of a resistance rights lobby that would organize international events to demand a secure and stable homeland.

In the same context, Ms. Osan Mohammed, head of the Women's Department in the Supreme Council of the Popular Resistance, explained the roles played by women inside Yemen amidst the great challenges. Dr. Nabila Saeed, a member of the Supreme Council of the Popular Resistance's Supreme Leadership, considered the symposium an important opportunity to highlight the importance of women's role in strengthening the spirit of resistance and embodying its values both at home and abroad, through events and activities that contribute to the overall national effort to defeat all forms of coups against the state.

The participants praised the great role played by the popular resistance since its inception in confronting the Houthi coup in both Taiz and Marib. They expressed hope that the popular resistance, through its Supreme Council, led by Sheikh Hamoud Saeed Al-Mikhlafi and his colleagues in the Council, would regain the initiative to re-establish the national struggle and restore the Yemeni state's influence over all its territories.

The symposium concluded with important recommendations that focused on the role of the Yemeni family in consolidating national identity by teaching children about Yemeni history, encouraging them to follow reliable news, participating in Yemeni diaspora activities, promoting dialogue on national issues, and presenting crimes and violations through generation-appropriate awareness-raising methods.

The recommendations emphasized the need to invest in distance education, train female cadres, unify efforts and initiatives, and build a national narrative that preserves Yemeni memory. They also emphasized increased participation in international events and conferences to gain support and highlight the suffering of Yemenis.

The symposium also recommended holding more specialized symposia in the major cities of the Yemeni diaspora, starting with Istanbul, then moving on to Cairo, Kuala Lumpur, and other cities that have welcomed Yemenis due to the coup and war. This should focus on continuous efforts and pressure to end the war, lift the siege on besieged areas, ensure the return of displaced persons, release detainees, and restore normalcy through all possible means.

It's worth noting that the Supreme Council of the Popular Resistance was re-established at the end of July 2023 to complete the remarkable resistance campaign that began on April 16, 2015, in Taiz. It also aims to continue its efforts at various levels, remain committed to the battle for national awareness to restore the state and the republic, and stimulate diverse national initiatives and enhance the efficiency of civil life.
