The head of the Supreme Council of Popular Resistance, Sheikh Hamoud Saeed Al-Mikhlafi, stressed that resistance is the only way to achieve salvation from the Houthi coup and all its repercussions that threaten the existence of our state, our republican system, and our blessed unity.

This came in a speech he delivered on the occasion of the thirty-fifth anniversary of achieving Yemeni unity, May 22, in which he saluted the Yemeni people for their resistance and steadfastness, and for their republic and unity.

Sheikh Al-Mikhlafi stated that re-achieving the blessed Yemeni unity was not an elite political matter, but rather a deeply rooted belief in the conscience of all Yemenis, and was the result of the efforts, sacrifices, and contributions of all the sons of the nation throughout the decades preceding 1990.

The head of the council added that Yemen has been undergoing a difficult test for a decade, as a result of the crime of the coup against the legitimate authority and national consensus.  Pointing out that the coup crime "brought with it wars, calamities, devastation, and destruction, and undermined national principles and threatened the great achievements of our people, foremost among which are liberation, change, emancipation, the republican system, and unity."

Sheikh Al-Mikhlafi explained that after more than ten years of war, the coup plotters continue to expose Yemen to the danger of continued chaos and devastation, bringing about wars and causing the destruction of the state's and nation's capabilities. Their primary goal is to continue the coup against the will of the people, evade obligations and references, and flee from peace by provoking more wars and cycles of violence, and undermining the shared values of the Yemeni people.  Sheikh Al-Mikhlafi stressed that resisting the coup is a national duty, noting that "the failure of the legitimate government to fulfill its duty of restoring its influence, defeating the coup plotters, and restoring order is not due to a lack of men, capabilities, or powers." He added, "The men are present, and the capabilities are available if resources are activated instead of being disrupted. This necessarily requires abandoning futile projects and freeing ourselves from the selfish dictates that have prevented and continue to prevent the exploitation of our idle resources."

In his speech, the Council Chairman said, "The resistance has proven to be an impregnable barrier and the greatest symbol of sacrifice for the homeland. It has shouldered the task of filling the void caused by the absence of the state after September 21, 2014, when it decided to engage in a fateful confrontation with minimal resources against the coup plotters armed with the state's plundered military and financial capabilities."

He affirmed that the resistance, whose banner the Supreme Council is honored to carry, pledges to our people that it will move forward in its duty to defend the republic and the state, standing side by side with the army.  The armed forces, and all the fighters," and we are all determined, unwavering in our will, and strong in our commitment to the goal of ending the coup and restoring the state's influence, and we will not compromise with projects that threaten the legal and historical status of the Republic of Yemen.

Sheikh Al-Mikhlafi explained that the Supreme Council of Popular Resistance is steadfastly advancing on its clear and declared path, and will continue to work to mobilize sincere national efforts and move toward the goal of liberating the homeland from the Houthi coup plotters, restoring normalcy, and restoring the spirit of national partnership in accordance with the principles agreed upon at the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference.

The head of the Supreme Council of Popular Resistance emphasized that peace can only come with its right, and it has become clear to everyone that concessions and abandonment have not brought peace, but rather have emboldened the coup plotters and brought them greater interests and capabilities.

Sheikh Al-Mikhlafi concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the continued fragmentation and delay in building a unified national front, not beholden to any party, cannot be compensated for by empty claims about the unity of the republican ranks. Alignment signifies sincerity of commitment, freedom from agendas, and the harnessing of all resources for the sake of the battle for salvation, achieving the goals of reclaiming our beloved capital, Sana'a, and ensuring the consolidation and sustainability of our democratic republican system.
