Leadership of the Supreme Council of Popular Resistance meets with the European Union Mission and discusses developments in Yemen

The President of the Supreme Council of Popular Resistance, Sheikh Hamoud al-Mikhlafi, met with the Head of the European Union Mission to Yemen, Gabriel Munuera Vinales, and the Deputy Head of Mission, Luis Miguel Buenos Aires, to discuss developments in Yemen.

In the meeting, which was attended by a number of leaders of the Council and the political body, Sheikh Hamoud al-Mikhlafi expressed his appreciation for the role played by the Head of the European Union Mission in Yemen and the attention he pays to the role of the Supreme Council of Popular Resistance in the Yemeni arena.

Sheikh al-Mikhlafi emphasized that the Council is part of a national stance revolving around the priorities of restoring the Yemeni state's influence and constitutional role, ending the coup, ensuring peace and stability, and strengthening Yemen's position regionally and internationally.

For his part, Ambassador Vinales expressed the European Union's support for the legitimate authority led by President Rashad al-Alimi, its support for Yemen and the Yemeni people, and its support for the UN envoy's mission and Track II initiatives.  Stressing that the Union is in agreement with the position issued by the UN Security Council last February, which affirmed peace efforts and expressed the Union's agreement with the desire of regional countries to de-escalate.

This meeting is a continuation of ongoing communication with the heads of diplomatic missions operating in Yemen to discuss the latest developments in the country.
